Crime Prevention (more on security and personal safety can be found on the Links page): -

Seasonal Advice:
Summer is at last here. A welcome relief after a wet and windy spring. Thoughts turn to barbeques and lazy days in the sun. This is the time thieves look for that new expensive garden furniture, ornaments and expensive plants so now is the time to chack they are secure. Good advice on garden security can be found on the
Royal Horticultural Society web site. Download the Dorset Police 'Garden Wise' leaflet.

Home Security:
Here is a checklist of simple precautions to take:
Lock the doors every time you go out, especially those you cannot see while out in the garden. Keeping them locked when you are at home, say upstairs, is also advised.
Close windows when you go out or at night
Put your house and car keys, bags and wallets safely away and out of sight at night
Never  leaving handbags or wallets visible through a window or by an unlocked door, even during the day
Leave a light on or use a timer switch so that your house looks occupied.
If possible and practical, keep your wheelie bin out of  sight and away from the house. A padlock and chain will prevent the bin from being wheeled near windows and roofs. But beware chaining your wheelie to the nearest drainpipe.

Report from our COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICER, Phil Colishaw:
Firstly some excellent news – the appointment of Police Community Support Officer 5350 Pauline Guest who joined the team at the beginning of April 2008. She will be working on opposite shifts to myself that will give a much better coverage in terms of policing in the area.
More good news, crime on the Heath is down.
Heath land patrols have now started in earnest, I have been on the heath on my bicycle and also in the police off-road vehicle – fingers crossed we have not encountered any problems yet.
Do not forget to come and see us at the Police Surgery in the library on the First Friday of the month between 17.30-1900 to discuss any issues you may have.
Look out also for our Cops at the Shops Meetings every couple of weeks. We leaflet drop a road and set up a time for the residents of that road to come and meet us.

THEFT OF MOPEDS AND SATNAVS
The Police are concerned about an increase in their theft . Subsidised moped locks can be purchased from Halfords at a very reasonable price. If you have a SATNAV do not leave it in your car, remove it completely whenever the car is left unattended.

Heath Wardens:
Karen Pearce, the Heath Warden say HeathWatch still needs more volunteers.
